Great pictures Darron!!!!!! Thanks. Looks turkey season is going to be interesting in your neck of the woods. Did you see any of those bucks during any of your hunts?

I seen two shooter bucks this year while bowhunting. One was chasing a doe and skirted my stand at about 70-75 yards. I believe it was one of the 8's I have on camera. The other buck came in when I was 1/2 way up the tree in my climber. I sprayed some doe in heat while walking in about every 50-75 yards. I believe he smelled the scent and then heard me walking and thought I was a doe. I heard something running and I turned around in my climber only to see what looked like a nice main frame 10 starring at me at only 50 yards away. I about puked. I have had as many as 6 different shooters on camera, only 2 of which I have seen while hunting the property this year. The bucks on my place are extremely smart and a lot of them only move at night. About the only time I see them is from Halloween through about Nov. 10 and then again when the temps drop. During gun season I'll occasionally see one if someone pushes it out of a thicket.

Re: Feb cam pics

At least you know they are still there and are using your place. I'll bet summer is going to be very looooooooong for you. Hope you can get some pics of them during the summer to see their progress. I'm not having much luck getting any pics on my camera. The deer just aren't coming to the feeder. Although with the heavy snow we've had I'm betting things will change. Wink I'll post up what I get in a week or so.

I try and supplemental feed starting in Dec when the cold weather hits and my food plots are stressed. The deer on my place love the corn feeder as much as the food plots, although my turnip and rye patch have been hit hard this year.

The feeder I run is both a deer and turkey feeder and holds approx 150pds of corn. The feed usually lasts a maximum of 10 days, depending on the weather (just by looking at the pics the feed this past time lasted about 8 days). I have pics of as many as 8-10 deer at the station. I usually stop feeding around the last of March so I am legal for turkey season.

I am hoping for some snow to melt so I can frost seed some red clover in March. March is a great time to frost seed red clover and it usually takes off pretty well once we get some warm spring days. Plus, the turkeys love to eat and strut in those clover patches.

Re: Feb cam pics

Darron, will you be putting out turnips again this year? I think I'm going the clover and later in the summer turnips method.

I plant brassicas every year. I have a total of 4 food plots on my 115 acre property. They range in size from 1/8-3/4 acre. I never plant turnips in the same plot for more than 2 years in a row due to disease.

This is my plan for this year:

I'll frost seed red clover in all but one of my plots (the one I won't be frost seeding all ready has clover in it planted this fall with rye). I'll then plant a plot of brassicas, winter rye, oats and leave the one plot in red clover.

Plant brassicas in mid-late July and oats/rye no earlier than mid-August.

Re: Feb cam pics

When I was a kid we used to frost seed our winter wheat. Some of the fields were half a mile long. That wasn't much fun. You couldn't get a full trip in without filling up the broadcast seeder and it was to wet to drive the truck in to the field. This was before atvs. Man am I old!!!!! Undecided I usually start my feeder up after the firearm seasons are over. We're not the only ones hunting back there. I'll fill mine up one more time then let it run out. Should be gone by second week in March or just a little later. Very useful info on the food plots Darron. Thanks very much. Keep posting your progress. I find it very interesting.
