Muzzleloader season

Hope everyone is brave enough to head out for a little muzzleloader hunting this weekend. I will only be able to hunt Saturday morning, Rory and Jacob have opted out. - Good luck to all that venture out.

Re: Muzzleloader season

Well, I ventured out Saturday morning. It was not too cold. Stayed comfortable until 11:00.  At 10:30 had a doe and nice 8ptr stroll into my neck of the woods and had a nice 75yrd standing still shot at him.......just my luck my muzzy failed again.  I had a 1 second hangfire from the cap to ignition.  Missed him and he just stood there until I was ready to put a new cap on my re-loaded gun and then they both white-tailed it out of the area.  I had a miss fire on a doe at 30yrds during the regular gun season and immediately modified my custom inline to fit a Musket cap instead of the #11s. I had hoped that that would cure this problem.  I will next check the powder to see if needs to be replaced. dangit, I never have had such problems.

I am just about done for the year, but I may sit in my back woods on a few evenings with my excaliber xbow during the remaining weekends.  The only problem is that the deer are only showing up well after dark.

Re: Muzzleloader season

Made it out Tuesday evening after work. I couldn't set where I wanted to cause someone was not to far away from where I wanted to be. I just thought it was to close. So I went to one of our other stands. I sat there not seeing anything, kept watching the time go by and at 5:30 started to look for a mean and nasty stump that needed a 50 caliber hole in it. Well I found one and started to level down on it and spotted movement down in the woods. Well wouldn't you know it 4 deer were running around chasing eash other. Shocked Cry Huh? Huh? Huh? I thought to myself that is the way this season has gone they show up 5 min. after the season has gone out!!!!!!!!! Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh? Well I took my frustrations out on that stump. I was tempted to reload and just make sure that old stump was done for but I didn't. Cry

Re: Muzzleloader season

Looks like my season is now over. I put another 2yr old doe on the ground last night in the back woods to fill my last tag. A nice easy 20yrd quartering away shot with my Excaliber taking out both lungs.  Pulled the boys away from their controllers to help track her, just for the practice. They were able to follow the huge blood trail to were she fell 45yds from were my thunder head hit her.  With the current temp, I will start butchering on Wednesday.

Now time to start planning for Jacob's first turkey hunt.

Congrats Michael, that's going to be some very good eats!!!!! You guys had a great season. Glad you had the boys help with the blood trailing. Cool Are you and the boys going to do any of the sportsmans shows? We may try the one in Medina. Not real sure about the deer and turkey expo yet.

We have not been to the deer and turkey expo since Jacob was still in the stroller. I do not know anything about the one in Medina.  Do you have any details?

Re: Muzzleloader season

Michael, it's at the fair grounds in Medina. The dates are January 29 & 30. Here is the web site for it. www.holmescountysportsmanshow.com
There is one this weekend in Dalton the web site for that one is www.ohiosportsmanshow.com. Don't think we'll be able to make this one. Maybe next year or I think they do one in the fall also. I really don't know to much about these but it will get me out of the house for awhile. Grin

Re: Muzzleloader season

Thanks for the info. Does not look like we can get there.  We have our scouts pinewood derby race  that weekend, weight on Friday night and race on Saturday. Nuts.

Re: Muzzleloader season

Oh well there will be other shows. I'll bet the boys would have fun at the D&T expo in c-bus. The bad thing about that place is the huge crowds. :oGood luck to the fellas hope they bring home some trophies!!!!!!!!
